The New Apple iPad(2017) vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

With every generation, all the tech tends to get better and better. This is an obvious fact which we as users expect, and the manufacturers know.
What stands one apart is that fact that it is able to lower the price of the product even after creating a better iteration, and Apple has for sure done that with the latest iPad 2017.
Talking about tablets, Samsung has also recently launched its Galaxy Tab S3, and it became mandatory for us to compare the two as they offer some top notch high end specifications, all in a beautiful body.

If we ignore the price point for a portion of this article, the Samsung tablet would surprisingly beat the new iPad hands down, but again, it is a bargain one has to make.
So without wasting any more keystrokes and your time, let's compare:

1.Apple iPad (2017) vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S3: Design

  • Both the devices look premium.
  • The Apple iPad is all metal, whereas the Tab S3 is glass and metal, making it somewhat difficult to hold.
  • Tab S3 is way slimmer, and lighter as well
Both the devices look like a piece of beauty, with pretty solid build quality and rounded corners.
Both the devices possess a fingerprint scanner which is integrated in the home buttons as usual.
While the Tab S3 measures 237.3 x 169 x 6mm and weighs 429g, the Apple unit measures 240 x 169.5 x 7.5mm and weighs 469g, making it thicker and heavier among the two.
Samsung wins this round.

2.Apple iPad (2017) vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S3: Display

  • Both the devices have a 9.7 in screen, with different technologies
  • Both have the same resolution of 2048 x 1536 resolution with 264 pixels per inch
While the iPad has a LED-backlit IPS LCD display, the Tab S3 has a super AMOLED display.
It is worth noticing that unlike the previous iPads, this one does not offer a fully-laminated and anti-reflective screen, thereby having a small gap between the various layers of the display. This difference won't affect the user experience much, but would be pretty apparent when placed aside an Air 2 or an Air pro.

  • The Tab S3 has better cameras on both the ends
  • The Tab S3 supports memory expansion via an SD card
  • The audio output in Tab S3 is more clearer and far superior than that of the iPad

The Tab S3 packs in a quad core processor with 4 gigs of RAM. While there is only one storage option(32 GB), but this can be expanded which is a plus point for this device.
It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with a flash, which can capture 4K video, while the front has a 5-megapixel sensor. The Tab S3 has a massive 6,000 mAh battery, Samsung 2, Apple 0.

4.Apple iPad (2017) vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S3: Software

The Tab S3 has support for the S pen and the Samsung Keyboard, whereas the iPad lacks this luxury as the Apple Pencil is not supported, neither is the dock keyboard. This would drive a portion of users who would be using these devices for professional purposes like designing and editing to the Samsung one. Result: Draw

4.Apple iPad (2017) vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S3: Price

Now comes the real question. While Samsung wins over the iPad in a lot of things, price is one thing which Apple can brag about this product for. This is, by far, the cheapest iPad ever, and this fact is for sure going to attract those who either could not afford the pocket heavy iPads or were too reluctant to spend too much on a tablet. Samsung 2, Apple 1.

Both the tablets are, without any doubts, amazing. It all boils down to how much one wants to spend. Just to put a perspective, you can buy two iPads for the price of one Tab S3, so it is all upto a person's needs as which one to go for. The specifications are in Samsung's court, while price makes Apple the winner.
